I'm curious how Alshon Jeffery is 53rd after a 10 catch 200+ yard 1TD game? What brought his WPA down?

  2. Brian Burke says:

    Good question.

He was only 53rd in terms of Win Probability Added, but was 2nd in terms of Expected Points Added. The difference is primarily due to the timing of his big plays. His production came after the game had mostly been decided. Two of his bigger plays came as time was expiring in each half.

    Thanks, Brian.

Brian - quick question: do you include penalty plays (specifically the "no play" plays) in the EPA totals? In other words, does the opposing defense get EPA credit for an offensive holding call (which is deemed "no play" and a 10 yard loss)? Similarly, does the offense get EPA credit for a defensive encroachment call? Thanks as always!
